type face

I picked this type design out of my headline brief and really felt it was a strong design. i have been looking at a lot of objects and products that protect you from the sun and it's harmful rays. so this type face linked quite well with sun lotion and the dribbling mess it creates. so i want to test out some ideas using this style of type.

half tone test

i tried some half tone tesing to see how the image and type could work together on top of each other.

super soaker development

these are some initial designs and tests that have helped me clarify the design i want. initially the designs was drawn left lined but i changed it through illustrator useing the direct selection tool. i found there was alot of gaps so i re-produced some sections to tighten the design up.

also i found that getting rid of the stroke gave the design a nice finish so i think i will choose from that selection of designs.

lego block development

I tested some layouts, left lined, centred and also i tested adding shading to areas to try give the design another dimension. and bring the design of the page. i prefer the simplistic shapes without the shading.

up and coming brief.

Hi Rob,

Please find below a brief outline of the new Zicchi.com website.
After our first meeting with Gian (Company Director) and his
Farther Stefano (Company Adviser), the discussed outcome of
the project is to develop a social networking website for people
interested in sports, health and fitness.

Mark and I have decided it would be appropriate to design a
concept of the ‘User profile’ and ‘Admin account’ pages. When
designing for a website, it is important to take into account any
functionality the website possesses and bring it to the design
process. Unfortunately Mark and I have yet put together a full brief,
but below are some key features each page will have.

Some functionality of the user profile page is;

• Profile Picture
• Post for achievements (Improved fitness, Personal targets
reached, Status updates)

• Current ‘vitals’
o Height
o Weight
o BMI
o Ect…
• About me section
• Personal blog
• Friends
• Paid Adverts
• Gallery
• Clubs (Networks to other users)
• Chat functionality (live chat between friends)
• Link to nutrition guide or link to sign up for guide if not already (Main POS)
• My Events (Display personal calendar on profile)

Administration Backend will include

• User management
o Enable them to be moderator
o Enable them to have Free nutrition membership
o View profile
o Enable administration
o Enable Article posting
o Enable Global Calendar updates for world
o Remove users
• Website Analytics
• Club Administration
o View Club
o Edit
o Remove
• Calendar
o Add
o Edit Delete

Between now and Saturday I will be putting together some
ideas and collect example websites which could help aid us
in the design. I will contact you shortly to arrange a time and
place for Saturday. If you have any questions about the above,
please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Ben

I will need research web sites that are bassed around
sports and fitness and also social networking sites and
un-pick the areas that make the
design work etc

BW in context, final business cards

just some test pieces that show the business cards in context i find the colour of the cards are really good as they stand out from the wallet colour very noticeable. think the photos are OK but would probably be better of with some white lighting!

summary

these pictures i have taken show some testing with stocks however to really show these pieces of as a set i need to use the same stocks in my opinion there for i will have to test each stock on the other designs to see which is the best compromise. also i need to re photograph the pieces as i need them to look the best they can!

Headline posters - lego block

Matt paper stocked used for this print, very flat colour. but the colour and stock reflect solid colour and that's what i wanted limited effect from shine like on the super soaker print.

Headline posters - super soaker

For this print i decided to test a different stock i used a satin white paper stock which gave a really interesting touch as the context of the design is water and liquid, the satin stock gives an interesting shine to the design which reflects the water it self.

Headline posters - teddy bear

First of all once printed i noticed i printed the wrong file and Camera is spelt wrong Camara!
other than this i printed on too a thick sugar paper stock which gave a great texture to the piece, as it had all the lines and fibers on show from the formation of the paper. also the shades of the stock worked well with the subject matter of the poster as the brown shades worked well together. also the textures of the paper added to the context of the piece.

Design needs re-printing without mistake!

Don't panic brief

Don't Panic Brief:
I have just began this brief the ideas are flowing....ideally to increase my depth and quantity of finished designs i want for this module and for my portfolio. i want a quick turn around but produce a series of around 3 posters which would maybe turn into to separate series looking at separate subject matter to do with resistance. this is something i will need to discuss with Justin in my tutorial on Thursday

Current position

At this point in my design practice i have pretty much completed two briefs which need final refinements and printing the finished products Headline & Brighten Web. My Arjowiggins brief has been at a stand still for a while now and i need to set aside two days to finish that brief off.
Whilst i think the headline brief is nearly finished, i am considering the possibilities of extending the final deliverable to a collection including the poster designs/ a t-shirt and a little booklet containing letters from children to the MI5 and a bit about the design of the poster it self....possibly include headline page itself.
Also i have just become part of the ICM creative partnership with the college. and as part of a group of four other students on the course are undertaking professional briefs with quick turn around periods. this will hopefully bulk out my studio work as i have got four other briefs but i want around five to give me a good range of work and hopefully a selection of work i can in put into my portfolio for sending out to potential employers at Christmas.

Type trial

this a test piece i put together to see how the lettering could be created by using the scribble technique that i researched earlier. the design works as it displays the letter forms and portraits the crayon as well. i should try re produce the whole design using this technique....look at different type face shape!

messy tree imagery

In amongst the photo's that i have taken i selected out these ones as they are really interesting as they create really complex imagery like a spiders web or in the case of my concept for this brief a climbing frame structure.
from this i need to make drawings as i have done a lot of research into this brief but i lack the development of the idea as this brief only was intended to last me a week i need to finish it off quickly and appropriately.

organic shapes

i found these shapes on a band stand in the park. i felt that if i wanted to go down the idea route of a tree that is a climbing frame then i should look at more structures like this. i think the shapes even tho they are made from metal create very interesting shapes.....therefore creating a climbing frame in the shape of a tree i should consider the colours as this should help create a more metal look.

bark

If i decide to create more realistic imagery then i need to look at the different shapes that are created by the bark on trees (more imagery in folder work). also the colours that a on Th's part of the tree are very different to the leaf colours so i will need to consider what is needed as i don't want to over complicate the design especially as i have the set space to create the design in and i need to consider how i will create the tree around the number one/ incorporate it into the design!

leaf's

These leaf photos have pulled up some interesting points which i need to consider such as. the colour i need to look at these photos and consider the colour's that are present and the ones that i should incorporate into my design. also the shapes of the leaf's are really interesting something i will need to consider in my design, the type of tree I'm trying to portrait!

these leaves have been photographed in Autumn and the colours are dark greens/muddy browns and orangy yellows.

Trees

Initially this is a selection of photographs i took of trees. i wanted to get a realistic image of the tree to help me understand the tree form and not just come up with the shape in my head!

with these photo's i looked at a range of different shaped trees (more are printed and in folder work). i found some really interesting shapes that i need to look at and develop my idea with the knowledge of the shapes and styles trees can take.

crayon research

How could i create imagery from the shape and style of crayons.....scribbles??

initial test with crayon's. i used different coloured crayon's for each style of scribble i created. i wanted to see if i could generate any interesting imagery from this which could possible influence my design decisions.

to create the imagery i just performed different motions with crayons, to create circles, close scribbles wide scribbles. the idea for doing this is taken from kids colouring in books and the techniques they use to colour things in.

the research was quite interesting to look at the shapes and styles that i could use to create the imagery. i feel i need to pin down a focus for the Crayon poster as this is the one i feel a little behind with and i really need to generate a good idea. i think the research is a good start i need to use this and see what i can achieve.
